October 20, 2009 RA President Serzh Sargsyan and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina S. Kaidanow discussed Armenia-U.S. cooperation prospects, Armenia-Turkey normalization process, as well as regional security issues.

Welcoming Kaidanow’s first visit to Armenia and congratulating her on the appointment to the post, RA President Serzh Sargsyan expressed content on Armenia-U.S. cooperation and thanked for supporting Armenia to establish peace and security in the region from the first days of independence, RA Presidential Press Service informed NEWS.am. Kaidanow conveyed U.S. President Barack Obama’s greetings to Serzh Sargsyan.

The parties emphasized significance of Armenia-Turkey reconciliation progress, stating that normalization should promote without any preconditions in due course. U.S. will maintain its attitude also in further stages of Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, Kaidanow outlined. Sargsyan noted that Armenia supports the decisions that assist the stable peace and regional development.

The sides also discussed the outlook of Armenian-American relations’ extension and the democratic processes in Armenia. Kaidanow expressed content with democratic progress in Armenia and the recent amnesty outlining that the following steps will give momentum to the democracy development further.
