WikiLeaks website published a cable classified by former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse dated back to February 21, 2007.

The document reveals details of the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

The American diplomat writes that during the meeting the sides openly presented their positions on Iran. Aliyev said Iran is a significant problem and is like a “cornered animal”.

“Iran is ‘not going to back down’ because of international sanctions, according to Aliyev.  Aliyev also reportedly said that US pressure against Iran will not work. Aliyev also noted that Azerbaijan feels ‘under pressure’ by Iran because of Azerbaijan’s good relations with the US and Israel,” the cable reads.
