NATO does not intend to be involved in the Karabakh issue settlement. Samvel Mkrtchyan, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to NATO, stated in his interview to Azg newspaper.

“NATO has repeatedly stated it is not aimed to participate in Artsakh issue settlement or conduct peacekeeping operations,” Mkrtchyan said.

He supposes “the format of the peacekeeping process in Nagorno-Karabakh will become a matter of discussion once the political consent of all sides, including Karabakh, is received. NATO’s position is clear: not being involved in the conflict settlement, it hopes for the peaceful settlement, assisting both OSCE and Minsk Group.”

The peacekeeping operation will be conducted in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area, the recent G8 summit joint statement of Russia, US and France reads. The peacekeeping forces’ contingent is not specified yet.
