Turkish Foreign Ministry released a statement Oct. 28 saying it welcomes return of Turkish flags to shakhid cemetery in Baku and that the two countries apprehend the value of the flags. Azeri officials started to put back 10 flagpoles in the alley overnight. “During FM Ahmet Davutoglu’s visit to Baku it was mutually confirmed that Azeri flag is not alien to Turkey as well as Turkish is not alien to Azerbaijan. There is no doubt that the two countries hence will treat their flags (the flags of two Turkic nations) with more respect,” the statement reads.

The tension (also referred to as the “flag crisis”) between Azerbaijan and Turkey started when Azeri flag was not allowed during the Turkey-Armenia football match in Bursa October 14, Day.az says. Afterwards, Azeri and Turkish flags were removed from the shakhid memorial in Baku Oct. 15. The crisis is over just before the Turkey's Republic Day on October 29.
