The Democratic Fatherland Party (DFP) of Nagorno-Karabakh held its 3rd congress, which elected Premier Ara Harutyunyan party chairman. Thus, NKR Prime Minister has been re-elected DFP Chairman two years after he resigned in September 2007 in order to effectively perform his duties as NKR Premier.

Speaking at the congress, Ara Harutyunyan pointed out the steps the NKR Government has taken under President Bako Sahakyan’s election program.

The NKR Premier stated that over 8,000 hectares of lands will be irrigated in Artsakh next year. Reservoirs, including ones in the liberated territories, will be renovated. Harutyunyan reported that 70% of the NKR settlements are supplied with gas, which is a high figure even in comparison with gas exporting countries. The newly constructed hydro-power plants will make the NKR an energetically self-sufficient country in the near future. The NKR Premier pointed out that significant progress in construction, production of building materials, mining industry. A number of health, education and cultural centers have been put into operation over the last two years, and road renovation work is under way in almost all the regions. The NKR Premier said that the Government is channeling considerable funds to agricultural projects.

“To ensure our security and prosperity we must have a strong army and economy,” said Ara Harutyunyan.
