“I am sorry that Mr. Semneby shows such an attitude to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by differentiating easy and difficult things in a peculiar manner. The problem is impossible resolve with issues related to Nagorno-Karabakh status overlooked,” RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told NEWS.am, commenting on the opinion voiced by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby during his interview with Vremya Novostey (Time of News).
Semneby stated that the Armenian authorities are well aware of the fact that Nagorno-Karabakh cannot retain its status quo for ever, while the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh status has been postponed for an indefinite period.
“I am sure that after re-reading the UN Charter and other fundamental international laws, Mr. Semneby will come to realize that a status determined as a result of free expression of popular will cannot be postponed for an indefinite period. Moreover, it cannot be postponed for changing the present status quo, which is the result of resistance the self-determined people and state offered to the ethnic cleansing and military aggression by Azerbaijan. This approach actually means encouraging Azerbaijan’s militant rhetoric and non-constructive approach,” Sh. Kocharyan said.
