Torture cases increased in Azerbaijan in 2009, Head of Azerbaijani Committee against Torture Elchin Behbutov told Azerbaijani Turan news agency. According to Behbutov, the committee received 90 applications on tortures, at that six of them had fatal outcome since the beginning of the year.

The appeals are mainly on tortures inflicted during the investigation. By the way, torture cases were registered not only in the police, but other power structures as well, Behbutov stated.
