Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze renounced Russian Federation citizenship. November 4, prior to the government session, Vashadze stated that has already sent the relevant application to RF President. “I decided to facilitate Russian side’s task, as RF Constitution does not stipulate citizenship renunciation and decided to expatriate myself,” said Georgian FM.

State Duma MP, Fair Russia faction member Semyon Bagdasarov proposed to terminate Vashadze’s citizenship. At the Duma session, Bagdasarov expressed outrage with the fact that Georgian Foreign Minister holds dual citizenship. “Taking advantage of it, he freely travels the world and attempting to form anti-Russian charter,” MP said. However State Duma did not share his standpoint.

The day before, Georgian Foreign Ministry press secretary Iya Makharashvili stated that Vashadze did not intend to expatriate on his own. What caused such a flip flop in Gerogian FM’s stance, is yet unknown.
