Turkish Grand National Assembly will take no steps towards Armenia-Turkey Protocols’ ratification by February-March 2010, said Richard Giragosian, Head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) at the “Armenia-Turkey diplomacy and NKR: Accord or not” discussion. He also noted that non-ratification will be linked with Armenian Genocide commemoration day — April 24. “Undoubtedly, it will be a dangerous strategy by Turkey, as Armenian side’s patience might run out. Besides, Brussels and Washington repeatedly stated Turkey should fulfill its commitments within reasonable terms,” Giragosian outlined.
According to expert Manvel Sargsyan, making various statements Turkey increases tension trying to link Karabakhi issue left our of the Protocols with reconciliation, while Armenia responses with inactivity. “International community provided Armenia with a unique opportunity to establish relations, however Armenia thought hard which resulted in Protocols’ appearance,” Sargsyan mentioned adding, that Armenia fails to appear as a full entity in the region.
