On Nov. 5, around 1:30 p.m. (local time) a gunman killed 12 and injured 31 at the U.S. largest military base in Fort Hood, 130 kilometers north of Austin (capital of Texas).

“The base commander Lt.-Gen. Bob Cone clarified Thursday night that suspect Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, who is believed to be 39 and a Muslim, was shot in the incident but survived and was in stable condition,” Montreal Gazette informs referring to AFP and Canwest News Service, Nov. 5.

According to the sources, “investigators do not believe the rampage was an act of terrorism.”

“The gunman opened fire with two handguns, one a semi-automatic weapon. The majority of the dead and casualties were soldiers. The base was placed under lockdown for five hours following the shooting. It was lifted shortly before 8 p.m. ET., as families and employees on the base were allowed to leave,” Montreal Gazette reads.
