By October 1, 2009, Armenia’s economically active population had reached 1.184m people. The RA Statistical Service reported that 80,800 unemployed people had been officially registered in the country.

The Business 24 website reported that the highest unemployment level was registered in Shirak, Lori and Syunik — 12.9% or 12,600 people, 11.5% or 11,700 people and 11.8% or 7,000 people respectively. The unemployment level reached 9% (4,900 people) in the Tavush region, 9.1% or 7,500 people in Kotayk and 5.6% or 6,000 people in Gegharkunik.

The lowest unemployment level was registered in Ararat, Armavir and Aragatsotn – 2.7% (3,300 people), 2.9% (3,500 people) and 2% (1,300 people) respectively.

The economically active population in Yerevan reached 345,800 people, with the unemployment level being 6.3% (21,800).
