Within the framework of the 10th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) being in Yerevan, the Secretary General of IPU, Martin Chungong, held a briefing for the media members Thursday.

Chungong stressed with pleasure the fact that within the framework of this conference, topical topics for the society are discussed: youth employment, and education.

"The fact that the 10th global conference is being held in Armenia already opens up great opportunities for Armenia as a successful democratic country," said Martin Chungong.

According to the Secretary General of IPU, the role of the legislative body is important in terms of decision-making and later policy development. One of the most important components of youth empowerment is their representation in the parliament. And, as per Chungong, Armenia is one of the best examples from that point of view.

"Because the proportion of young people in the Armenian National Assembly is quite large and, therefore, the decisions made with their participation will also reflect the needs of young people," added Martin Chungong.

According to the Secretary General of IPU, there will be discussions, decisions, as well as policies aimed at the youth within the framework of this global conference. And this is very important for achieving the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, Chungong added.
