YEREVAN. – The year 2011 was the most active year for the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), its coordinator Levon Zurabyan stated, during a press conference on Wednesday. And, as case in point, he noted that in 2001 ANC held 22 rallies, marches, and a seven-day 24/7 rally.    

According to Zurabyan, 2011 was important in the sense that the political prisoners were released, and the authorities were unable to use the political prisoners as a “political bargaining chip.”

Among the important events in 2011, ANC Coordinator recalled the freedom of assembly, the dialogue with the ruling coalition, and the presentation of the legal foundations for President Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation.  

And with respect to the observation that early elections—for which ANC was exerting great efforts—did not take place, Levon Zurabyan said: “Not holding of the early elections is the failure of not only ANC, but of everyone.”
