U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office at a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz answered journalists' question about whether he would impose additional sanctions against Russia.

He noted that he would be “very, very tough” if it becomes clear that the war in Ukraine will not end soon.

However, he added: “It could concern both countries, frankly, only two can tango.” 

“We're going to be very tough, whether it's Russia or somebody else, we're going to be very tough, there's a bloodbath going on there,” the US president noted. 

At the same time, he said there is “tremendous hatred” between the two participants in the conflict.

“There is some animosity between them. I have to deal with it, and the Chancellor has to deal with it, it's unbelievable...There is a tremendous hatred between these two, between these two men, but there is a tremendous hatred between the opposing sides,” Trump said.

He also revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin told him, “We have no choice but to attack” in response to the latest Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.

 “And it probably won't be pretty. I don't like it. I said don't do it. You don't have to do that. You've got to stop it. But, again, there's a lot of hate here,” the US president concluded.
