Former president Rauf Denktas, of the Turkish sector of Cyprus, died Friday night, at the age of 88, at the hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
Following Turkey’s occupation of the northern sector of Cyprus, Denktas was elected president of Cyprus’ Turkish sector in 1976, and he was elected president periodically until 1995.
