Turkey does not conceal that it will use its membership in the UN SC to influence the regional issues, including Karabakh conflict settlement.

Mr. Ahmed Davudoghlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, informed Azerbajanian news agency Trend News that Ankara plans to present Karabakh issue in UN Security Council. “This month various issues are on the agenda of Security Council, and Turkey stands for discussion of all these issues, having international interest and actuality, Karabakh theme inclusive”, noted Davutoglu. The Foreign Minister is certain that it is important to achieve “progress and development on the Karabakh settlement issue” for rehabilitation of situation in the region.

He noted that Turkey is for effective negotiations between Armenia and Azerbayjan and works on this issue within OSCE Minsk Group: “We also work on this issue within OSCE Minsk Group. During my visit to Washington I discussed this issue with the leaders of USA and came to the conclusion, that our mutual task — is to favour the settlement of the conflict in every possible way.”

According to Davutoglu, Turkey is rather determined to negotiate with Armenia and already sees the common future of Armenia, Azerbayjan and Turkey mutual relations in the region: “Turkey, Armenia, Azerbayjan and even Russia and Georgia have common future. We all live in one region and this will last forever. Therefore all of us must be constructive and stay apart from processes and actions that prevent our negotiations.”

Along with this Turkish Foreign Minister thinks, that Turkey-Armenia relations are not restricted to South Caucasus, but also have an impact on Turkish-American relations: “This is unjust – Our relations with Armenia should not affect our relations with USA.”

Turkey is not a Co-chairmen of OSCE Minsk Group, therefore it does not possess a mandate of а mediator in Karabakh conflict settlement. Official Yerevan tends to differentiate the problems concerning Armenian-Turkish relationship and Karabakh peace process.
