The Pentagon is working out the plan on sending extra 34 000 troops to Afghanistan, CNN reports referring to anonymous military source.

According to the source, U.S. President Barack Obama might officially declare about this decision on December 7 at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

November 25, Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell stated that in case U.S. sends additional troops to Afghanistan, they expect NATO allies and partner states to follow their lead. He expressed confidence that the talks with allies will be held to clarify what they can do and when.

Morrell pointed out that Pentagon does not assume that partners will voice their decision right after Obama’s statement. According to him, U.S. President might declare his decision next Tuesday or Wednesday, when Congress resumes its activities after a week break.
Presently, 68 000 servicemen from the U.S. and about 45 000 from other NATO states are deployed in Afghanistan.
