YEREVAN. – Brussels will host the third congress of Armenians of Europe on October 15-16, Chairman of Hay Dat Committee of Europe Gaspar Karapetian said.

The first day of the conference will be closed, and will be attended by Armenians only, including representatives of the governments of Armenia and Karabakh, Armenian ambassadors, representatives of Armenian communities, as well as the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I. In total, the congress will be attended by about 200 guests.

The participants will discuss three main issues, including development of a program on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Gaspar Karapetian noted that Armenian Genocide is a proven and widely accepted fact, and now the goal is to achieve recognition and compensation from Turkey.

The other goal of the conference is to introduce different structures of the Armenian communities in Europe and develop a plan to counter the Turkish-Azerbaijani lobbyists’ activities in Europe.

“Following the lead of Azerbaijanis who came up with ‘Khojaly genocide’, Turkey invented ‘the Van genocide’, and on the eve of the 100th anniversary, the Turks will use these tools to mislead the international community,” Karapetian said.

The second day of the conference will also address the issue of the Armenian Genocide, as well as new challenges in the South Caucasus , in particular, Karabakh issue. On this day in Congress will be attended by foreign guests, in particular, the European Parliament members.

Among the questions that European Armenians are concerned with are recognition of the Armenian Genocide, ensuring recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenians of Europe are also working for Syrian Armenians to receive humanitarian aid.

“In our work with the EU, we also put forward the issue of ensuring the physical security of Syrian Armenian,” he assured.
