YEREVAN. – Russian entrepreneurs are showing interest in coffee exports from Armenia, director general of Raffael Contini Trading Company Rafii Mkhdjyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The businessman said he had recently sent a small batch of samples to Krasnodar, and recently he learned about the interest of buyers from Pyatigorsk.

“Basically it is about the Russian Armenians who heard that imports from Armenia became easier within the Eurasian Union,” Mkhdjyan said.

The Russian coffee market is very different from the Armenian one, he explained. On average people in Russia drink less coffee, but of better quality.

“They do not like to spend hours messing around with pots. They pour it into a machine, drink and go. In a new market my hopes are for a new product - instant coffee 3 in 1 with cream and sugar,” the businessman said.

Russia and Georgia are the markets for export of ground coffee roasted in Armenia. Last year Armenia exported 987 tons of coffee for $4.32 million, 539 tons were exported to Russia and 438 tons to Georgia.
