Indian citizens, who queued up by banks in mid-November to get rid of the banknotes withdrawn in the framework of the currency reforms, on Thursday again queued up outside financial institutions to get their salary, RIA Novosti reports.

Since November 9, 500 and 1000 rupee currency notes—the largest banknotes in the country—have been withdrawn from circulation in the framework of the struggle against shadow economy, corruption, counterfeiters and terrorism funding. The citizens had to stand by banks and ATMs for several hours to get rid of the old banknotes.

However, on Thursday the situation returned to that of mid-November: the queues near banks again grew to the scales of the first days of reforms. In Connaught Place commercial district and New Delhi Center the people are queueing atually near every bank branch. The explanation for this is quite simple: Thursday became the first day of paying salaries after reforms.
