A ceremony of unveiling and consecrating an Armenian cross-stone (khachkar) dedicated to the innocent victims of the Ukrainian and Armenian peoples took place in Kiev Friday.

The cross stone was consecrated by the leader of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, bishop Markos Hovhannisyan, AnalitikaUA.net reports, citing the press-service of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine (UAU).

The ceremony was attended by the Armenian Ambassador to Ukraine Andranik Manukyan, Chairman of Kiev’s Holosiivskyi District Administration, Natalia Bondar, Chairman of the Armenian community of Kiev, Norik Gevorgyan, national deputies of Ukraine, deputies of Kiev city council, representatives of Ukraine’s Orthodox, Greek-Catholic and Roman Catholic churches, as well as famous public figures.

CEO of the UAU, Davit Mkrtchyan, read out to the participants the welcome words of UAU President Vilen Shatvoryan.

During the event, member of the Armenian Diaspora of Holosiivskyi  District administration, Arayik Khachatryan, was bestowed medal of Active Diaspora member.

Chairman of Holosiivskyi District Administration Natalia Bondar, as well as the deputies of Kiev city council and public figures of the capital were handed UAU certificates of appreciation.

 

 

The project of installing the cross-stone was carried out by the UAU, Armenian Diaspora of Kiev’s Holosiivskyi District, Armenian Embassy in Ukraine, Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church and Kiev NGOs.

In November 2010, the art of creating cross-stones was included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
