EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will not allow Ukraine to have a status of the EU membership candidate. This is stated in the final declaration of the EU summit on Ukraine, reports RT.
" The agreement does not confer on Ukraine the status of a candidate country for accession to the Union, nor does it constitute a commitment to confer such status to Ukraine in the future," reads the document, which is published on the European Council’s website.
It is emphasized in the text, that the association agreement with Ukraine does not oblige the EU and its members to provide collective security guarantees or other military assistance to Ukraine. Note, that the decision of EU leaders on the Ukrainian Association will enter into force, only after it is ratified by the Netherlands. Otherwise, the decision on Ukraine will be canceled.
