President of the European People's Party (EPP) Joseph Daul has released a video message supporting the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) in the run-up to the parliamentary elections to be held in the country.

In the message, Mr Daul in particular wishes the voters to continue to trust the responsible forces like the RPA and avoid all populist divergences. According to him, these elections will be the first following the Constitutional referendum in Armenia in 2015, which transformed Armenia into a parliamentary country. They will also be the first to be held under the new Electoral Code initiated by the RPA.

''Meanwhile, these elections give an important opportunity to test the strength of democracy in your country. It's important that they pass fully freely and transparently, peacefully and in line with international standards. I am convinced your leadership will do its best to organize such elections.

And it will be done not for the purpose to satisfy your international partners but for the benefit of your country and citizens.

It's beyond doubt that free and fair elections are a precondition for further deepening of relations between Armenia and the EU, which will be propelled by the Comprehensive and Expended Partnership Agreement initialed recently.''

The citizens of Armenia will be the first to derive its benefits since an established democracy can make Armenia stronger.''

According to the EPP President, strengthening of the rule of law, fighting corruption, ensuring the independence of the judicial system and guaranteeing the political stability of the country are not merely fair goals but also means, which can make Armenia more attractive for international investors and foreign enterprises.

''I wish that voters in your country continue to trust the responsible forces such as the RPA and avoid any populist divergences. But for that you must be able to hear them and react to their concerns and expectations.

He also wised success to all the candidates ''so as the RPA is able to lead your country by the right path.''
