Egypt’s former president Hosni Mubarak has been released after spending six years in jail.

He has left a military hospital and is heading home, Reuters reported quoting his lawyer.

Mubarak, 88, was overthrown in 2011 and is the first regional leader to be convicted after the Arab Spring.

In March the court acquitted Mubarak of compliance to the murder of demonstrators during the 2011 riots.
