In Latvia, the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA) delegation, led by Vice Chairman Eduard Sharmazanov, on Friday met with Lolita Čigāne, Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee of the Latvian Parliament.

The RA NA deputy speaker stressed that Armenia is ready to resume the political dialogue with the EU countries. Touching upon the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed on November 24, he noted that this document outlines the significant developments and steps of the RA-EU cooperation, assuring that Armenia will continue with the development of democracy. Also, the RA NA vice chairman expressed the hope that Latvia will ratify this agreement in a very short period.

Speaking about the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, the RA NA deputy speaker reaffirmed the Armenian side’s position of resolve this conflict solely through peace talks, and added: “The complete exercise of the Artsakh people’s right to self-determination is irrevocable”

The parliamentarians’ cooperation within international platforms also was referred to at the meeting. In this context, Eduard Sharmazanov noted: “In the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we expect the Latvian side’s balanced position, which will not contradict the official position of the [OSCE] Minsk Group and the European Union.”
