In Chile Pope intends to visit Santiago, Temuco and Iquique as well as to meet with President Michelle Bachelet. In Peru, the pontiff will visit Lima, Puerto Maldonado, and Trujillo.

During his visit in Chile, Pope Francis will meet with victims of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

Before Pope’s visit to Chile, the unknown attacked several Catholic churches in protest against Pontiff’s visit. Chile’s Ministry of the Interior said that there was no threat to Francis during his stay in Chile.

This is Pope’s sixth visit to the countries of Latin America. This time he will not visit his native Argentina. However, the Chilean authorities expect a huge flow of pilgrims from neighboring Argentina during his visit.
