Five Russian citizens could have died in clashes with U.S.-led coalition forces in Syria, said Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday.
According to her, reports about the death of dozens or hundreds of citizens are nothing but disinformation, Meduza reported.
“According to preliminary information, we could be talking about the deaths of five people, presumably Russian citizens as a result of an armed confrontation the causes of which are being examined "Zakharova said.
On February 7, US-led coalition targeted troops advancing on the position of Syrian Democratic Forces. The American and Russian media outlets reported that the Russians employed in Syria by a private security company Wagner were killed.
The Defense Ministry and other Russian agencies have not formally confirmed losses among Russians as a result of the air strike, while their relatives confirmed the death of four Russian citizens.
