YEREVAN. – The draft law offering compensations to the relatives of victims on March 1, 2008 tragic events are welcomed both in terms of timing and the very context, deputy from the Republican Party of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan said on Wednesday.

His remarks came at the meeting of the standing parliamentary committee on state and legal issues and human rights during the discussion of the draft law initiated by Yelk bloc MPs Alen Simonyan and Lena Nazaryan.

According to him, they advocate adoption of the draft law as soon as possible.

“This will give an opportunity to organize the payment of compensation under the law, without shifting this issue to court,” he noted.

He suggested expanding the list and adding relatives of the victims of the terrorist attack in the parliament on October 27, 1999, as well as relatives of servicemen who died fulfilling their military duties in peacetime.

According to the initiator of the bill, Alen Simonyan, the March 1, 2008 events should be treated separately.

Gevorg Kostanyan noted that additional discussions on this draft law would be held in the near future.
