US President Donald Trump stated that he has invited to the White House the fiancée of Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi journalist who disappeared in Turkey, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Speaking to reporters during his talk with American pastor Andrew Brunson whom Turkey has released from custody, Trump said they have invited Khashoggi’s fiancée to the Oval Office.

The US president, however, spoke pessimistically about the fate of the Saudi journalist.

On October 2, Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi had entered the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul, Turkey, to pick up some documents for marriage, but had gone missing.

On October 6, the media reported that the Turkish police were considering the theory of his being murdered inside the consulate building.

Jamal Khashoggi is known for his harsh criticisms of Riyadh’s current policy.

In 2017, he left Saudi Arabia and settled in the United States.
