YEREVAN. – Armenia believes that the continuing arms race in the South Caucasus region should be stopped.

Anna Naghdalyan, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated the aforementioned at Thursday’s press briefing.

With respect to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s statement on the supply of armaments to Azerbaijan, Naghdalyan recalled that Armenia’s acting PM and his press secretary had already commented on this matter.

“[And] on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I can only add that the arms race in the region is at the focus of attention,” she noted. “Arms supplies simply increase the risk of their being used.

“What is business for some, is a deadly threat to us [Armenia]. Arms race leads to an increase in instability. The matter is always raised during meetings and multilateral meetings with [our] partners.”

At the same time, however, the Armenian MFA spokesperson urged not to confuse what was said with an absence of capabilities and determination.

“The Armenian Armed Forces are trained and armed enough to guarantee the security of Armenia and Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)],” Anna Naghdalyan stressed, in particular.
