For me, as the Ambassador of Russia to Armenia, it is especially important that Armenia is considered one of the top priorities in our activities in the fight against forest fires.

Russian ambassador Sergey Kopirkin on Monday stated the abovementioned at Armenia’s Khosrov Forest State Reserve, and within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) project on mitigation of climate change risks in Armenia through the development of the potential for the management of forest and field fires.

In the ambassador’s view, this project is a very important part of Russia’s “fraternal and strategic partnership” with Armenia, and which is implemented in close cooperation with partners from the UN.

“Thus, several Russian-funded (…) projects are implemented on the territory of Armenia,” Kopirkin noted, in particular. He added that this work will continue.

Also, the Russian ambassador thanked the UN colleagues.

Along the lines of this project, 360 firefighters of Armenia have received special equipment and tools that are designed for hard-to-reach places during forest fires.

The total cost of this project is about $1 million.

The project was implemented by the UN, and fully funded by Russia.
