Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on a working visit to Strasbourg, France, on Thursday met with President Liliane Maury Pasquier of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The PACE President expressed satisfaction with her recent visit to Armenia. Pasquier also noted that the packed agenda of the Armenian PM’s visit to Strasbourg attests to the productive process of the Armenia-Council of Europe (CE) partnership and the bilateral readiness to make it grow deeper. In the PACE President’s words, the CoE underscores its cooperation with Armenia in the strengthening democratic institutions, protection of human rights, and establishment of the rule of law.

PM Pashinyan, for his part, stressed that Armenia is a full member of both the CoE and PACE, and expressed satisfaction with the course of the country’s cooperation with the CoE.

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government has a huge agenda of reforms and a respective CoE assistance is important.

The PACE President, in turn, welcomed the implementation of democratic reforms in Armenia, and reaffirmed her readiness to assist the country in the protection of human rights, development of democracy, and strengthening of the rule of law.

Nikol Pashinyan and Liliane Maury Pasquier reflected also on the negotiation process to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict.
