YEREVAN. - At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the government of Armenia decided to allocate 5.8 million drams (about $12,000) to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure within nine months, from the 2019 State Budget reserve fund, for the transfer of Armenian citizens who still are in Egypt.

Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Suren Papikyan presented the matter. In his words, the adoption of this draft decision is due to the need to organize one more flight from Hurghada, Egypt, to Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan flight, and an agreement has been reached with Taron-Avia airlines on conducting this flight in August.

In his turn, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan noted that the last such flight was carried out in cooperation with Taron-Avia, the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, and Zvartnots International Airport of Yerevan.

“We [the Armenian government] have received great discounts from both Zvartnots and Taron-Avia,” he added. “We can say we are paying even less than the cost price.”

To note, another 109 passengers are expected to be transported from Hurghada to Yerevan, on Thursday at 2:30pm, on board a Taron-Avia plane.

Earlier, the government had allocated 47 million drams (approx. $98,347), from the reserve fund, for the return of the Armenian nationals who were stranded in Hurghada.
