YEREVAN. – Vardan Yeghyan, 51, who is charged with running over a 13-year-old girl with his car and causing her death on the spot on July 18 on Yerevan Highway, does not accept the charges. Yeghyan’s legal defender, Ruben Baloyan, told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to the attorney, the fatal accident had occurred outside the crosswalk on this highway, whereas the victim’s relatives claim that the child was passing through this crosswalk.

As per the driver, the girl had appeared in front of his car on the right side, whereas according to her relatives—on the left side.

Ruben Baloyan noted that the investigation will give the answer to these questions.

The legal defender stated that his client not only had not fled the scene of the accident, but had called the police himself.

According to the ruling of a court in capital city Yerevan, Vardan Yeghyan was released on a 800,000-dram bail.

The investigator, who had petitioned the court to have the driver remanded in custody for two months, did not appeal this court ruling.

A criminal case on this road accident is in progress under the Criminal Code article on traffic safety breach that negligently caused death.
