YEREVAN. – Let the government summon the Sanitek leadership and say, “Why don’t you give these people’s salary? Answer for that?” One of the Sanitek waste management company employees, who are staging a protest outside the Yerevan Municipality, stated this.

These Sanitek workers are demanding their salaries for August. They were told by this company that the municipality had not transferred the respective money. And now they want the city hall to give them the document stating how much money it had transferred to Sanitek for August.

Hakob Karapetyan, Spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, approached these protesters, and submitted to them a document stating that the municipality had transferred 165,340,000 drams to Sanitek in August—and for the work it had done in July and August.

“The municipality will do so by all means possible that you can receive your salaries,” Karapetyan told these Sanitek workers. “Your employer is the Sanitek company, which is obligated to pay your money. The municipality is seeking legal mechanisms that if there is such a chance, your salary will reach you without Sanitek. Give us a few days’ time. [But] I can’t answer the question why Sanitek hasn’t paid [your salaries].”
