YEREVAN. – The students at Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Armenian Philology, who have been boycotting classes since November 6 in protest against the bill on Higher Education and Science, will suspend it for three days. Gevorg Gyulumyan, a student, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

"We are adamant, but we respect our professors very much," he said. "By listening to their exhortations, we temporarily suspend the boycotting of classes."

The students are going to submit an application to the acting rector, and will make a final decision on the boycotting of classes after receiving a response.

Under the controversial bill, it is proposed to make "Armenian Language", "Armenian Literature", and "Armenian History" subjects non-mandatory at non-specialized faculties. The lecturers had joined the students' protest, and three days ago they discussed their complaints with Minister Arayik Harutyunyan.

The round-the-clock sit-in continues in front of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia for the 14th day.
