YEREVAN. – Yesterday, in fact, shocking news came when it was spread by law enforcement agencies. We are talking about the fact that a mechanism of illegal adoption of children has been exposed in Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at the government session today.

"To be honest, from a human standpoint, I couldn't believe that there would be any specific findings on this topic," he added, in particular. “The fact is that we have detained people. Of course, according to the RA legislation, the presumption of innocence of anyone cannot be violated. But if such actions were taken, it means there are at least suspicious grounds."

The Prime Minister noted that it was understandable that this case had caused quite an emotional reaction among the public. "But it is very important that the investigation of the case be without emotions, complete," Pashinyan emphasized. “It is important to understand how that such a mechanism worked in Armenia.

We have to make sure that all possible suspicions are dispelled, and we really record that we have closed that shameful chapter—with all its legal consequences."

Razmik Abrahamyan—Director of Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Republican Maternity Hospital) of Armenia—his deputy Arshak Jerjeryan, Liana Karapetyan, Director of Yerevan Children's Home SNCO, and another person were detained yesterday on suspicion of along the lines of the criminal case into the cases of illegal adoption of Armenia’s children by foreigners.
