The statements that cultural figures and 60,000 citizens of Armenia made in support of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan proved that President Kocharyan has a high reputation in society. This is what Head of the Office of the second President of Armenia Victor Soghomonyan told journalists today.

“The statement was issued two months ago, and more than 60,000 people have joined it. Today we are summing up the results of the past two months. Today is also a sad day since it marks a year since Kocharyan was unlawfully detained. Robert Kocharyan has addressed a message to his friends and supporters, and the message will be read by his son, Levon Kocharyan,” he stated.

Soghomonyan also talked about the arrest of owner of Fifth Channel TV Company Armen Tavadyan and said the following: “There were rumors that the video was made in order to make up cases against Tavadyan and his family members, and Tavadyan was arrested. I believe the coarse response to the statement of the cultural figures was conditioned by the fact that the authorities had been spreading a myth that the people want to see Robert Kocharyan punished and that the people hate him. These statements showed that this was false and that President Kocharyan has a high reputation. I know that the cultural figures received calls from many people who tried to terrorize them and that an army of fakes attacked them by trying to make them feel ashamed. This is the cause-and-effect relationship between the authorities’ attack and the arrest of Tavadyan,” he stated
