Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Environment Krasimir Zhivkov will remain in custody amid the garbage scandal. The court session lasted 14 hours and ended on Monday night, the Bulgarian national TV reported.
The decision of a specialized court can be appealed within three days, TASS noted.
It is expected that Zhivkov will be officially removed from his post as the Deputy Minister.
During the investigation, it was found that the deputy minister committed unlawful actions, helping accused businessmen to organize fraud in the delivery and processing of hazardous waste from Italy, and most of this activity was fictitious.
The procedural and investigative actions in the criminal case have been carried out since May 28 at 40 facilities throughout the country.
