The Turkish parliament passed a bill expanding the powers of the nightwatchmen, Hurriyet reported.

Thanks to the new law, nightwatchmen have received powers almost the same as those of the Turkish police. Now they will be allowed to carry firearms, and they have the right to stop and search people.

The bill allows them to use firearms, stop vehicles, carry out document checks and personal searches, however, they cannot arrest or interrogate suspects.
