The UK and the EU will hold emergency talks on Thursday over UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plan to violate his part of the Brexit agreement, in connection with which Brussels will consider the likelihood of a lawsuit against London, Reuters reported.

Vice President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic will meet with his British counterpart Michael Gove in London. The talks will also be attended by European Commissioner Michel Barnier and UK Brexit negotiator David Frost.

If Brussels is not satisfied with London's position, the EU can use part of the EU Withdrawal Agreement to bring legal action against the UK.

“If they try to do that, it will fail,” the EU source said on condition of anonymity.

Two other EU sources said the European Commission will review the UK's proposed internal market project to accommodate the amendments before making a final decision to initiate a claim.

In a message from the European Commission to the 27 EU member states, it is said that the bloc may begin legal proceedings against the UK.

Earlier, the UK government submitted a draft amendment to the agreement on leaving the EU. According to this bill, Northern Ireland, which is a member of the EU, and after the end of the transition period, will guarantee access to the UK market and goods, which, according to the UK authorities, is especially important for the peace agreement concluded between the UK and Northern Ireland in 1998.
