The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Stef Blok, wants to support the European Union in imposing an arms embargo on its NATO ally Turkey, reports the Dutch newspaper NOS.

The four ruling Dutch political forces have made such a request due to various conflicts in the region, including Turkey's involvement in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict.

They made a respective proposal during this week’s debates on the budget of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Late in the evening, an at the request of the House of Representatives of the Netherland, FM Blok announced that he would like to receive the respective support of his European colleagues.

According to the coalition partners, the Cabinet of Ministers should do everything possible in the EU context to impose an arms embargo. "Turkey has crossed all lines again and again. Now is the time for decisive action," said Joel Stephanus Voordewind,  an MP from the Christian Union party.

According to him, Turkey has sent Syrian jihadists to take part—on the Azerbaijani side—in the recent Nagorno-Karabakh war.
