Investments of one billion dollars a year are quite a real number for Armenia, said Armenian second president Robert Kocharyan at a meeting with representatives of the healthcare sector.

"In 1998, we had 300-310 companies with foreign capital, and in 2008 there were already more than 4,000 such companies," he added.

"The direct size of accumulative foreign investments in 1997 was about $ 120-130 million, and in 2008 this figure was about $ 4 billion. This was done through changes in legislation and relations. When the government begins to develop infrastructure in a country, many other factors arise. I have no doubt that it will be the same now.

For Armenia, an investment of one billion dollars a year is quite a real number. In the first year, it will be difficult to do this, because the appropriate structures in the business have formed such a practice of invasion that it takes a certain amount of time to "repair" and restore confidence. Perhaps legislative changes are needed that will convince a foreign investor that the state has returned to the ranks of reliable countries in terms of foreign investment," he said.
