Oman hopes that the new Israeli government will take concrete steps to create an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi told Israeli FM Yair Lapid during phone talks.

Busaidi said in February that Oman is pleased with its current relationship with Israel after the other Gulf states, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, normalized relations with Israel last year under US-brokered agreements, ONA reports.

Lapid will travel to the UAE next week as part of the first official visit by an Israeli minister to a Gulf country since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He will open the Israeli Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Israeli Consulate General in Dubai.
