According to Hraparak.am, motions to arrest former Minister of Defense of Armenia Davit Tonoyan and weapons supplier Davit Galstyan have been filed with the court.

According to Hraparak.am, the two were brought to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash Administrative Districts where the motions for their arrest will be examined by Judges Mnatsakan Martirosyan and Gagik Poghosyan. However, the court hearing was postponed and will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m.

“Until this moment, there is no official confirmation, and such hasty examination of a decision on arrest entails several questions since the law provides the opportunity to keep a person detained for 72 hours,” the source reported.

According to the source, Tonoyan and Galstyan were detained within the scope of the criminal case regarding supply of poor quality armament in 2011 and being investigated by the National Security Service.

On September 25, the National Security Service reported that the former chief of the Aviation Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia is detained on suspicion of abusing power and committing official fraud, causing dire material consequences. According to the press release, the chief was ex officio aware that one of the organizations supplying weapons and ammunition in 2011 had imported into Armenia missiles produced between 1985 and 1991.

A little while after they were supplied, some missiles weren’t used and were left out of the balance sheet, and the rest of them weren’t used at all, including during the 44-day war that broke out on September 27, 2020.
