As at the moment there is no decision of the speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia whereby the powers of the incumbent President of Armenia are terminated, it would not be nice to make any comments today. Vahagn Khachaturyan, the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, told this to reporters Monday.

"The man [i.e., incumbent President Armen Sarkissian] still has a chance [to remain in office]. He can withdraw the letter [of resignation]," he added.

Commenting on the reports being circulated that the parliamentary faction of the ruling Civil Contract Party will submit his candidacy as the next President of Armenia, Khachaturyan said. "Theoretically, it would be circulated, taking into account all the [respective] criteria that existed: [being] over 40 years old, an Armenian citizen, a person who has experience, as well as a current minister. Under these conditions, it seems possible to assume that I can end up on that list, given that I can be nominated [as President] also as a member of today’s government, also as a member of the political team."

He added that it was a surprise for him that President Armen Sarkissian submitted his resignation.

"Before that, I could not even imagine that I could become a person who at least considers that position," Vahagn Khachaturyan noted, in particular.
