The Council of Representatives (Parliament) of Iraq of the new convocation was unable to elect the President of the Republic on Monday and postponed the meeting for an indefinite time, Sky News Arabia TV channel, citing sources.
Legislators were supposed to vote on their nominees for the post of head of state, but the leading blocs said last week that they would boycott the meeting.
As a result, the deputies failed to gain the necessary two-thirds of the votes - according to the channel, no more than 58 out of 329 MPs were present in the hall.
