President-elect of the Republic of Korea Yoon Seok-yeol discussed by phone with British PM Boris Johnson the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the situation in Ukraine, Yonhap reported, citing the official representative of the South Korean politician Kim Eun-hye.

According to her, the telephone conversation took place on Monday and lasted 15 minutes.

During the conversation, the parties expressed concern about North Korea's missile launches, agreed to cooperate on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and stressed the need to coordinate efforts with the United States and the UN Security Council.

Yoon Suk-yeol and Boris Johnson condemned Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, calling it a threat to shared values, an attack on freedom and democracy around the world.

The politicians expressed hope for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the digital and military spheres, as well as in industry. The UK PM promised to give the newly elected president of South Korea an autobiography of Winston Churchill (1874-1965), as Yoon Seok-yeol had previously spoken of his reverence and interest in this historical figure, Yonhap reported.
