US President Joe Biden has prolonged for another year the unilateral US sanctions regime against North Korea, this is evidenced by documents released on Monday by the press service of the White House.

We are talking about extending the so-called state of emergency regime with regard to Pyongyang, which provides for the preservation of restrictions imposed on the basis of a number of presidential decrees signed in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The measures adopted by Washington at that time were aimed, among other things, at preventing Pyongyang from proliferating weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.

The statement highlighted that the "risk of the proliferation of weapons-usable fissile material on the Korean Peninsula and the actions and policies of the Government of North Korea continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. " "Accordingly, I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13466 with respect to North Korea," reads the text of the notice signed by Biden. The White House press office also distributed a copy of a letter sent by the head of the U.S. administration in connection with the extension of the sanctions regime to Congressional leadership. Biden had previously extended the said regime on 21 June, 2021.

Earlier on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. authorities are open to a dialogue with the DPRK without preconditions to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. At the same time, the U.S. foreign minister said that Washington was ready to continue putting pressure on Pyongyang.
