A powerful explosion ripped through a mosque in western Kabul during prayers on Friday, killing at least 10 people and wounding 15, Reuters reported, citing Afghan authorities.

Besmullah Habib, deputy spokesman for Afghanistan's interior ministry, said the blast went off at the Khalifa Sahib mosque in western Kabul around 2 p.m. local time.

The incident occurred amid a series of attacks on Afghan places of worship and civilian facilities during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.
